X-rays on injured offensive lineman Chris Ward's ankle were negative and he will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis, the school announced Tuesday.
Ward, in contention for a starting guard spot, left practice Tuesday in obvious pain. He needed assistance walking off the field and trainers then carted him back to the training room for further evaluation. It turned out to be a sprain, the school said in a release.
Ward (6-4, 330) is competing with Greg Capella and Albert Cid for the two guard spots. The sophomore has alternated working with the first and second teams during camp, but with an indefinite absence in front of him, Capella and Cid figure to get most of the action as the Bruins head toward their Sept. 3 opener at Houston.
