Injury report: Jeff Baca to resume practice

Offensive lineman Jeff Baca, out since undergoing ankle surgery in late March, will resume practice Tuesday and could play Saturday against San Jose State, coach Rick Neuheisel said.

Baca also missed all of last season because he was academically ineligible, but is considered UCLA's top offensive lineman and would probably slide in at the weak side tackle, Neuheisel said.

"The key is to make sure he’s healthy," Neuheisel said. "He’s going to practice this week and we’ll see how much. He’s going to be rusty. Not only missing spring ball and fall camp, but all of last year. How quickly we can get him up and going is anybody’s guess."

Other injury updates:

  • Quarterback Kevin Prince has "better than a 50-50 chance" to play Saturday against San Jose. Complete details here.

  • Linebacker Glenn Love's dislocated shoulder isn't as serious as previously thought and there is a chance he might play this week. Love, the starting strong side linebacker, was originally expected to miss two weeks, but was going to see a doctor Monday night for a status update. "I’ll go down to questionable on him," Neuheisel said. "He’s feeling better and he’s going to see a doctor about harnessing and he may have still have some chance to be available this week."
