USC gets one JC LB, loses another

Lane Kiffinsaid Wednesday he expected the Trojans to sign "several more" early enrollees as a way of bypassing the NCAA-mandated 15-scholarship limit on USC's 2011 recruiting class.

After signing six players Wednesday, USC added another Thursday with the commitment of JC linebacker Dallas Kelley (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Chaffey College).

Kelley is rated as a two-star prospect and was first recruited by the Trojans earlier this week, making for an ultra-quick recruitment process. No other Pac-10 school was believed to be recruiting him. At 6-foot and 227 pounds, he projects fairly well to the middle linebacker position in Monte Kiffin's defense at USC.

Kelley told multiple media outlets he expects to officially sign his letter of intent with USC on Monday and enroll in January. Another player at Kelley's position, the more highly touted Thomas Tutogi (Chula Vista, Calif./Southwestern), chose Washington over USC this week and will enroll early there.

The Trojans now have between two and three spots remaining for early enrollees. One of those is expected to be filled by long snapper Peter McBride (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral), who committed in July.
