The first of two summer sessions at USC began last Wednesday, and five incoming freshmen in the class of 2011 enrolled at the school in time to begin attending classes: offensive linemen Cyrus Hobbi and Cody Temple, tight end Junior Pomee, cornerback Ryan Henderson and punter Kris Albarado.
The five are thus allowed to participate in voluntary workouts with the team and get a copy of the playbook to study, obviously while attending classes and getting a head start on their academic work for the fall semester. They join the group of USC's nine early enrollees who began at the school in January, which included touted quarterbacks Cody Kessler and Max Wittek.
Eight more players are scheduled for a mid-June arrival, which would put them on track to enroll in the second summer session at USC, beginning later that month. Those include linebackers Lamar Dawson and Anthony Sarao, offensive linemen Aundrey Walker and Marcus Martin, receivers George Farmer and Marqise Lee and defensive linemen Christian Heyward and DeVante Wilson.
USC has 10 more incoming players -- nine freshmen and junior-college cornerback Isiah Wiley -- scheduled for later enrollment times. Wiley was originally intended to be a January enrollee but had to have his start date pushed back because of academic issues.
He is still tentatively scheduled to arrive in time to practice this fall.
