Ellison picks up a preseason honor

USC's Rhett Ellison was named to a preseason watch list for his position award Wednesday, earning the Trojans' fourth such honor of the watch list season.

Ellison, a senior tight end, was named to the 34-man Mackey Award watch list. Four other Pac-12 tight ends made it on the list, including Oregon's David Paulson and Stanford's Coby Fleener.

In his first full season as the starter in 2010, Ellison totaled 21 catches for 239 yards and three touchdowns. He's been projected as a potential draft pick in next year's NFL draft.

The 2011 Mackey Award winner will be presented live on December 8, 2011 at 6pm EST on ESPNU. The 201o winner was Arkansas' D.J. Williams.

Coming later this week are watch-list announcements for the Ray Guy and Lou Groza Awards and the Bronko Nagurski and Outland Trophies. USC should have at least one player present on the Nagurski and Outland lists.

The Biletnikoff Award watch list was also expected to be announced soon.
