USC will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its new on-campus athletic facility on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
School officials attending include university president Max Nikias, athletic director Pat Haden and chairman of the Board of Trustees Ed Roski. Head football coach Lane Kiffin and other coaches and student-athletes are also expected to attend. The event is open to the public.
The facility, which will cost $70 million, will be called the John McKay Center, in honor of the former Trojans' coach. The facility will include meeting rooms, offices and a locker room for the football team, as well as an academic center, weight room, training room and digital production facility for all of USC’s 21 sports. Construction of the building is expected to take 18 months.
We'll have a report from the festivities on the blog Wednesday.
