Mike Scioscia has stayed mum about his Opening Day starting pitcher.
And, frankly, it looks like he could pick a name out of a hat. All five guys are capable, veteran starting pitchers, but none has the look of a bona fide ace.
Take it with a grain of salt, but something Scioscia said Wednesday leaves a clue that Jered Weaver will be facing the Minnesota Twins April 5. Nobody is going to be shocked, considering Weaver is coming off a season in which he led Angels starters in innings, ERA and tied for first in wins.
Scioscia said Weaver will start Saturday's Cactus League game against the Oakland A's. If he leaves Weaver on four days' rest the remainder of the spring, Weaver would be on target to start opening night.
