Angels shortstop Erick Aybar predicted he would return to the Angels’ lineup Monday against the Dodgers. Aybar missed the last four spring games because of a strained right forearm.
The Angels are trying to get Aybar as many at-bats as possible this spring to get him accustomed to batting leadoff, a role vacated by Chone Figgins’ departure to Seattle.
“He’ll be fine,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “If what he did last year turns out to be what he does this year, he’s going to set the table and score a lot of runs.”
Meanwhile, the Angels continue to deal with an assortment of aches and pains in their everyday players. Outfielder Bobby Abreu was scratched from Sunday’s game because of tightness in his side. Abreu, Aybar, Torii Hunter and Howie Kendrick all have missed time with minor injuries.
