The Izturis Experiment

Manager Mike Scioscia is fed up enough with the Angels' inability to set the table for the middle of their order that he's decided to try something, or rather someone, entirely different.

For the next several games, Scioscia will trying various combinations involving Maicer Izturis near the top of the order. Saturday, he batted Izturis in the No. 2 hole and moved Howie Kendrick down to seventh. He'll also try Izturis in the leadoff spot with either Kendrick or Erick Aybar hitting second.

Whatever works. It sounds as if the era of patience is coming to an end.

"We're (almost) a third of the way through the season and we are really behind as far as giving the guys in the middle of the order chances to hit with guys on base or guys in scoring position," Scioscia said. "Now, with Izturis, we're going to have options that are going to make sense and we're going to move off that."
