Stein's Power Rankings: Week 17

It's a safe bet to suggest that the Miami Heat don't have ESPN.com's weekly NBA Power Rankings high atop their list of priorities.

I imagine that they've coped just fine seeing someone else in the top spot -- most notably Indiana nine times -- for the last 16 Mondays in a row.

But the Heat are finally back where they were when the committee (of one) unveiled the preseason edition of the rankings back on Oct. 28.

Back to No. 1.

After a mortal 8-6 record in January, Miami is 8-1 against a tough schedule in February, which includes a home win Sunday over stubborn Chicago even with LeBron James in street clothes after suffering a broken nose.

The Heat also had the satisfaction last week of watching the Pacers feel as though they had to make another move to try to close the gap on the two-time champs by dealing Danny Granger for Evan Turner just before Thursday's trade deadline ... while also swinging a not-so-minor move themselves by shipping Roger Mason to Sacramento to open up a roster spot for a potential addition from the buyout market.

So March is almost here and the Heat are starting to get serious. Rest assured that the rest of the league is paying very close attention.

The rankings, as always, were compiled with the usual robust assisting from the ESPN Stats & Info and the Elias Sports Bureau. Click here to rank the teams yourself.
