The NFL released the preseason schedule on Thursday. Dates and times haven’t been announced, but here’s a first look at the opponents for the Miami Dolphins:
Week 1 (Aug. 11-15) at New York Giants
Comment: The Dolphins’ first game of the 2016 preseason will be against a very familiar face. Former Miami defensive end Olivier Vernon, who left the team this offseason in free agency, should be fired up for this one. Not only is it Vernon’s debut for the Giants, but it comes against the team that drafted him and where he spent the past four seasons. Vernon led Miami in sacks in 2015 but left for New York after signing an $82 million contract.
Week 2 (Aug. 18-22) at Dallas Cowboys
Comment: The Dolphins will travel to “Jerry World” in the second week of the preseason to play the Cowboys. Miami opens on the road in the first two preseason games for the second straight year, which should help with its stadium renovations. The Dolphins are in the second phase of upgrading their stadium to include a new canopy and scoreboard. Now, they have a hard deadline when to be ready by Week 3 of the preseason.
Week 3 (Aug. 25) vs. Atlanta Falcons
Comment: The Dolphins know the date and time (8 p.m. ET) because this matchup will be nationally televised on NBC. This is the first time this season a national audience will get to see the Dolphins and their updated stadium renovations, and it comes in the third and most important game of the preseason. Look for Miami's starters to play two or three quarters against Atlanta. Miami is 6-8 all-time against the Falcons in the preseason.
Week 4 (Sept. 1-2) vs. Tennessee Titans
Comment: The Dolphins will wrap up their preseason at home against the Titans. Miami beat Tennessee soundly, 38-10, last year in the regular season. But don’t expect many fireworks in this one. Both teams will be looking to rest and stay healthy for the regular-season opener.
