Dolphins practice notes: Plan for McKinnie?

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins (3-3) had their final practice Friday in preparation to face the first-place New England Patriots (5-2) Sunday.

Here are a few notes and observations:

  • It’s still hard to tell what the Dolphins’ plans are new offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie. He practiced again Friday and did drills exclusively as a left tackle. However, Miami lined up in team drills during the portion of practice open to the media with the same starting offensive line, which included Tyson Clabo at right tackle and Jonathan Martin on the left side. McKinnie had to learn a new offense this week and his playing time likely will be determined closer to kickoff.

  • Quarterback Ryan Tannehill appeared to have no issues throwing passes during the portion of practice open to the media. Tannehill was put on the injury report recently with a right (throwing) shoulder injury. It has come as a result of the sacks and hits he’s taken this season. But Tannehill appears fine and ready to play Sunday against New England.

  • Middle linebacker Dannell Ellerbe has practiced every day this week. He is battling a shoulder injury that forced him to miss the Dolphins’ most recent game against the Buffalo Bills. Ellerbe is closer to playing and could be a game-time decision.

The Dolphins will release their final injury report this afternoon.
