CLEVELAND -- Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill picked up his eighth career victory in the NFL on Sunday. But it wasn't a pretty performance, as Tannehill finished in the middle of the pack in Total Quarterback Rating for Week 1.
Tannehill posted a 59.7 QBR in a 23-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns. The rating was good for 16th in the NFL. Other quarterbacks, such as Buffalo Bills rookie EJ Manuel and Terrelle Pryor of the Oakland Raiders, posted higher QBRs in defeat.
There is certainly room to grow for Miami's second-year quarterback. On trend with the preseason, Tannehill and the Dolphins' offense started slow and didn't warm up until the third and fourth quarters. Fortunately for Miami, its defense was dominant and kept the Browns' offense under wraps.
The most encouraging sign was Tannehill put together two clutch touchdown drives in the second half when Miami needed it, especially on the road. The Dolphins this season will only go as far as Tannehill's arm can take them.
