Show and Prove: Cortland Finnegan

This week, we examine several key Miami Dolphins players who have a lot to prove in 2014.

Next we take a look at Dolphins veteran cornerback Cortland Finnegan, who signed a two-year, $11 million contract this offseason as a free agent.

What he has to prove: Finnegan must prove that he still has gas left in the tank. The veteran has struggled mightily the past two seasons with the St. Louis Rams. However, Finnegan has attributed that mostly to injuries. Finnegan says he's healthy and ready to prove his doubters wrong in 2014. The Dolphins are banking on a bounce-back season. They need another veteran presence in the secondary.

Walker's 2014 outlook: Finnegan is one of the biggest mysteries for the Dolphins entering the 2014. It is difficult to predict how his season is going to go. Finnegan must first beat out second-year cornerbacks Jamar Taylor and Will Davis in training camp to earn a starting job. Finnegan's experience gives him the advantage, but he must also stay healthy and productive to keep his job during the regular season. That is perhaps a bigger challenge. If Finnegan can avoid injuries, he could provide a physical duo at cornerback alongside Pro Bowl cornerback Brent Grimes.
