Smith isn't fined for hit; Special on trip airs

MINNEAPOLIS -- Vikings safety Harrison Smith wasn't fined by the NFL for his hit on Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller last Sunday, when he drew a personal foul for the shot to Miller's head.

Smith said after the game he wasn't sure what else he could have done. He noted that Miller missed most of last season with a knee injury, adding the tight end lowered his head, too, leaving Smith with little room to work. At the time, Smith criticized the NFL's interpretation of the rule, saying he wanted to hit Miller in a good area but didn't have much choice.

"They told us even if they lowered their head, if you make contact with the helmet, that's a fine," Smith said Sunday. "But that's pretty unreasonable, in my opinion."

Also, the Vikings' trip to London will be the subject of the Discovery Channel's NFL In-Season program tonight at 10 p.m. Eastern. The network chronicled the Vikings' and Steelers' trip overseas and their preparation for last Sunday's game. The network has a preview video of the episode available here.
