The Cincinnati Reds reportedly are pleased with the progress of Devin Mesoraco as he recovers from hip and shoulder injuries, but they could add another veteran catcher before spring training.

Rumor Central

C. Trent Rosecrans and Zach Buchanan of Cincinnati.com report the 28-year-old Mesoraco, a former All-Star who has appeared in just 39 games over the last two years, is expected to ease into spring training with the expectation that he will be ready by the regular season.

Tucker Barnhart started 106 games behind the plate in 2016 and the Reds are comfortable with giving him an expanded role. The Reds took a catcher, Stuart Turner, in the Rule 5 draft and may be looking for some additional insurance.

Brayan Pena and Hank Conger are among the free-agent catchers likely to be available at a moderate price.
