ABC’s “Rising Star” premieres at 9 p.m. ET Sunday as a reinvention of a traditional singing competition. It allows the audience to determine in real time who advances from the beginning of the program.
Singer and songwriter Josh Groban will play host, with country music superstar Brad Paisley, pop music sensation Kesha and hip-hop artist and actor Ludacris serving as experts.
The show is different from other programs where judges or coaches determine who advances. Here, viewers will use an app to vote during performances, and competitors can see the progress of the voting as they sing. No pressure there.
Performers move on once the voting reaches a certain level.
“Rising Star” is executive-produced in the United States by Ken Warwick (“American Idol”) and Nicolle Yaron (“The Voice”).
