San Antonio Spurs starting small forward Kawhi Leonard has been sidelined for all of the 2017 preseason due to a lingering issue with his right thigh.
"We're still rehabbing his thigh," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said earlier this month. "And he'll probably miss the beginning of preseason or a good deal of preseason, and we're not going to put a timetable [on a return]. But he's working at it, and we'll get him back as soon as we can."
Friday is the last preseason game, and the Spurs still have no idea when Leonard will be cleared to play. The first game of the 2017-18 regular season is five days away, on Oct. 18 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
"We've seen him in the gym and in rehab, but he hasn't scrimmaged, so it's hard to tell what stage he is in," Manu Ginobili told the San Antonio Express-News after Thursday's practice. "It's a question mark."
Until Leonard returns from the injury, Popovich may continue to start Kyle Anderson at small forward.
