The Clippers have six free agents and four others who don't have fully guaranteed contracts for next season and all of them could be waived. The key free agent is Chris Paul and he wasn't ready to say that he will definitely re-sign with the Clippers. He is expected to get a max contract from the Clippers or another team..
"I got a lot of time to think about that," Paul told ESPNLosAngeles.com. "As I do with any decision I make, I consult with my wife, my parents, my brother, my family. I might even let little Chris chime in on this. We'll see what happens."
There have been plenty of rumors that Vinny Del Negro needed to get the Clippers into at least the second round of the playoffs to save his job and that might be true, however nothing will be decided for a while.
"We just lost the game. We're going to let the dust settle a little bit and then evaluate everything," said general manager Gary Sacks. "Our coaches and players did a good job this year. But right after the game, I can't really comment on it."
"The Clippers are in a precarious position in that they have to keep their star player, who also happens to be an impending unrestricted free agent, happy without jeopardizing the long-term vision and flexibility of the franchise. This is a daunting task for any team, but doubly so for an organization with a reputation for failure, ruining sure things and being L.A.'s second team behind the Lakers. They need to get smarter on the floor, improve their 3-point shooting, bolster their frontcourt rotation and get younger (particularly on the wing), but it would be wise to do all these things while remaining fluid for Summer 2014."
