Two non-AQs are Biletnikoff semifinalists

Bowling Green’s receiver Freddie Barnes and San Diego State’s Vincent Brown are the only players from non-AQ schools named as semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award.

Barnes is the nation’s leading receiver in catches (99), yards (1,054), touchdowns (9), yards per game (131.8) and receptions per game (12.4). His reception total is 37 more than his nearest competitor and his lead in yards receiving is 173 more than the next closest receiver.

His 99 catches are tied for the most in school history, while his 1,054 yards are 84 shy of the all-time school record for yards in a season, set by Cole Magner in 2003.

Barnes has been especially hot through the first half of Mid-American Conference play. Through four MAC games, he has 53 catches for 694 yards and seven touchdowns.

Brown has been San Diego State’s most dynamic player this season.

He averages 111.14 receiving yards per game, which ranks sixth in the nation and leads the Mountain West. He has five 100-yard receiving games this season and a touchdown in all but two of the Aztecs seven games.

He missed the second half of Saturday’s game against Colorado State after suffering a jammed thumb. He’ll undergo an MRI this week.
