BYU and Texas will play a guarantee game on Sept. 10, 2011 at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, the schools announced today.
“We are very exited to announce this game vs. Texas,” BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said. “It’s a great opportunity for BYU to play a program like the Longhorns on a national stage. We anticipate a great matchup between two storied programs that are currently among the most successful in the nation. I'm really excited for our coaches, our players and the rest of Cougar Nation."
Texas will be the second major Big 12 foe the Cougars will play in a three-year span. BYU defeated Oklahoma in the opening game of the 2009 season at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
The meeting between Texas and BYU will be the third between the two schools, but first since 1988. BYU won the last meeting 47-6 in Provo. BYU also beat the Longhorns in Austin 22-17 in 1987.
