Father of Virginia tight end dies in plane crash

Virginia sophomore tight end Colter Phillips is one of three brothers whose father died in the recent Alaskan plane crash. William "Bill" Phillips was killed in the plane crash on Monday near Dillingham, in a remote part of Alaska.

"A member of our football family, Colter Phillips, lost his father, William "Bill" Sr., Monday in a plane crash that claimed several lives," coach Mike London said in a prepared statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Phillips family and all the other families affected by this tragedy. Colter is currently with his family and we are committed to supporting him in any way possible."

Phillips' younger brother, Willy, was one of four survivors. Colter has two brothers who also play collegiate football. His older brother, Andrew, is a senior guard at Stanford and his younger brother, Paul, is a freshman tight end at Indiana.
