I'm on a two-game roll after correctly picking Notre Dame to beat Boston College last week. Much like the Irish, I can get on a real winning streak if the Pitt game goes my way, since the upcoming schedule looks (on paper) fairly easy to predict. The pressure is on.
Notre Dame 27, Pittsburgh 24: Speaking of streaks, there are two at work here. The Irish have lost to Pitt in each of the last two years. But Brian Kelly beat Dave Wannstedt his last two years at Cincinnati with Big East titles on the line.
The Panthers often struggle against spread offenses, as they did against Utah in the season opener, and though Notre Dame's attack remains a work in progress, Dayne Crist should find some favorable matchups. Pittsburgh's offensive line has been a mess most of the season and has yet to prove it can sustain drives against solid competition. Given that and the subpar play of Tino Sunseri and the Panthers' passing game, I like the Irish to turn in a solid defensive effort like they did last week against Boston College.
Wannstedt usually plays things close to the vest, especially on the road, and I think he'll find himself playing catch-up because of it. Notre Dame holds on and wins by a David Ruffer field goal.
Last week: Correct pick
Season record: 3-2
