Welcome to the Winless Watch, where we take a look at the teams still waiting on that first victory of the year, and their odds of getting it this week.
We are still left with two:
Akron (0-9). Streak: L 9. This week: at Ball State. Chances: 50 percent. The Zips have some hope going into this game, because Ball State has been struggling. The Cardinals have lost four straight, and already got beaten by a winless team this season -- Eastern Michigan broke its long losing streak with a 41-38 win last month. They only have one win against an FBS opponent -- and that came against two-win Central Michigan. Ball State H-back MiQuale Lewis could pose a problem for the Zips, who are giving up 174 yards on the ground. But the Cardinals have one of the worst defenses in the nation, ranking 110 out of 120 teams.
New Mexico (0-8). Streak: L 9. This week: Wyoming. Chances: 25 percent. This could be one of New Mexico’s last chances at a victory this season with games upcoming against Air Force, BYU and TCU. Coach Mike Locksley said he didn’t know whether starting quarterback B.R. Holbrook would be able to play. Holbrook hurt his shoulder against Colorado State last week, just the latest in a series of injures he’s suffered this season. Stump Godfrey played last week and could get the nod again. New Mexico hasn’t scored over 20 points in a game this season. Wyoming has been eliminated from bowl contention, but the Cowboys have the unquestioned edge at quarterback with Austyn Carta-Samuels
