Second straight over 'school up north'

play
Relf Powers Bulldogs Past Rebels, 31-23 (1:01)

Chris Relf throws for a career-high 288 yards and three TDs in Mississippi State's win (1:01)

Now when Dan Mullen says it, there is not a lot that anybody on the other side can do but shake his head and look the other way.

Mississippi State held off an Ole Miss fourth-quarter charge to win 31-23 Saturday night and keep the Egg Bowl trophy in Starkville. It is the first time the Bulldogs have won in Oxford over the “school up north” since 1998.

The Bulldogs (8-4, 4-4) are also going to a bowl game after bettering their record from a year ago by three games.

So Mullen doesn’t really have to repeat what he told the crowd at Scott Field last season.

There’s no denying that Mississippi State is a program on the rise, and Mullen and his staff have done a great job of utilizing what their current talent does best.
