Here are a few news items from the weekend:
-- BYU linebacker Jadon Wagner was selected in the CFL draft on Sunday, going to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats with the 44th overall pick. The Alberta native decided to skip his senior season and head to the CFL. Wagner started nine games for the Cougars last season and had 38 tackles, seven tackles for loss and one sack but missed most of the spring for personal reasons. Without him, BYU is expected to start Jameson Frazier, who already was atop the depth chart at weakside linebacker.
-- Utah State quarterback Jeremy Higgins has decided to transfer to Hawaii after ending the spring third on the Aggies' depth chart in the competition to replace Diondre Borel, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. Higgins must sit out a year before becoming eligible to play in 2012. That leaves Adam Kennedy and Alex Hart as the top two choices, with true freshman Chuckie Keeton expected to compete in the fall.
-- The UAB-UCF game has moved to a Thursday, Oct. 20, giving the Knights four weekday games in 2011.
-- Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin has donated the car he used to win the slam dunk competition to Stand Up To Cancer in honor of late childhood friend Wilson Holloway, a Tulsa offensive lineman who died earlier this year after battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Griffin also created Team Blake: In Honor of My Friend Wilson Holloway, where the public can donate.
