Halftime thoughts: Boise State 13, Oregon 0

No. 14 Boise State leads No. 16 Oregon, 13-0, at halftime at Bronco Stadium. Here are some of my thoughts at the half:

Stat of the half: There are any number of stats to choose from to show the discrepancy between the Boise State and Oregon offenses, but here’s a good one: Boise State has 15 first downs and Oregon has none.

Best player in the half: Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore has been nails completing 14 of 20 passes for 133 yards, but some major props have to go to the Boise State defense. It’s dominating the Ducks and holding them to just 14 yards of total offense. Yeah, you read that right: 14.

What Boise State needs to do: The Broncos haven’t been a team to get overly excited about in big games. There were some struggles in the first half, but that’s to be expected early. Boise State needs to keep doing what it’s doing on offense and defense, and kicker Kyle Brotzman finally got off the schneid with a 45-yard field goal at the end of the half.

What Oregon needs to do: There is just no cohesion for the Ducks on either side of the ball. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli is too quick to break out of the pocket, there have been multiple dropped passes and some of the play calling, including a counter in the end zone that resulted in a safety, has killed the Ducks. They need to start with a first down to even begin to get back into this game.
