With fall practice a few weeks away, let's go over a few more impact transfers to watch in the Big East.
Here is the list I had up during spring practice. There is one big addition.
Montel Harris, Temple. Harris has the potential to make the biggest impact of any transfer in the Big East, given all he accomplished during his time at Boston College. Harris fills an immediate need for the Owls, who lost their leading rusher from a year ago in Bernard Pierce. There are no doubt some questions about the Temple offensive line, which lost four of five starters and lacks depth. But if Harris can find even one shred of a hole, he should make his impact felt. His résumé speaks for itself.
Interestingly enough, the Owls are the beneficiary of two very high-profile transfers that bring instant name recognition, moreso than any other team in the Big East. Former Penn State quarterback Kevin Newsome also has arrived on campus, hoping to push Chris Coyer for the starting quarterback job. Coach Steve Addazio has consistently maintained that Coyer is his starter, but he wants to find a role for Newsome.
Though his Penn State career was a disappointment, Newsome does fit into the mold Addazio likes in his quarterbacks. We will wait and see what type of impact Newsome has this season. He and Harris could really help the Owls make some noise in Year 1 in the Big East.
