ACC: Who will transform tomorrow?

Our choice for the player who will transform tomorrow and make the biggest impact in Week 10?

Maryland defensive lineman Joe Vellano.

It is no secret that the Terps are going to need a stellar defensive effort if they have any chance of beating Georgia Tech on Saturday. And Vellano will be a huge key, because he is the main cog on the the defensive front that has helped the Terps rank No. 4 in the nation in rushing defense.

That group is now tasked with slowing down the Georgia Tech rushing offense. Vellano is more than equipped to help his teammates in that regard. He leads the ACC in tackles among defensive linemen (6.5) and leads the league with 1.75 tackles for loss per game. Do you know how many tackles he had last year against Georgia Tech?

That would be 20, which still stands as a career high. The total includes 14 solo stops, something Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson has not forgotten about.

"You just try to neutralize him," Johnson said. "He's a good player. He's going to make plays. You try to be in a position to help double him or help chip on him when you can. It will be a challenge to our offensive line. They know who he is and are aware of what he's done. He's a good player. You're not going to completely stop a player like that. He's going to make plays."
