Oregon perks up to No. 3 in BCS standings

Oregon's win over USC and Notre Dame's struggles boosted the Ducks to No. 3 in the BCS standings.

The Ducks' offense put up historic numbers in a 62-51 win at USC, while the Fighting Irish needed triple overtime to beat Pittsburgh, a team that lost to an FCS team earlier in the season.

Alabama remained No. 1, while Kansas State was No. 2.

Oregon remains in good position. The Ducks remain a solid No. 2 in both polls that make up two-thirds of the BCS standings -- the coaches and Harris polls -- and No. 5 in the computer polls.

Oregon's score perked up from .9136 to .9166.

No. 2 Kansas State's number fell from .9400 to .9318.

That trend should continue as the Ducks have a much more challenging scheduling ahead than the Wildcats.

As for the rest of the Pac-12, Oregon State is 11th, Stanford 14th, UCLA 18th and USC 19th.

Oregon State plays Stanford on Saturday. UCLA plays both Stanford and USC this month, having already lost to Oregon State. USC, which already has lost to Stanford, and Oregon State would only meet in the Pac-12 title game.

Oregon still plays Stanford and Oregon State, as well as the Pac-12 championship game.

Again ... as we've typed again and again: If Oregon wins out, the odds are strong that it will play for the national championship, even if Kansas State and Notre Dame win out.
