PSU's Michael Mauti to miss final game

Penn State coach Bill O'Brien confirmed Monday what most had feared: senior linebacker Michael Mauti will miss Saturday's senior day game with a left knee injury.

The team's short statement didn't specify the extent of Mauti's injury, but he had to be carted off in the first quarter of last Saturday's win against Indiana. The senior has had an incredible season, recording 95 tackles, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, 2.5 sacks, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery. He's a frontrunner for Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors, and his value to the team as an inspirational leader, especially during the tumultuous offseason, can't be measured.

It'll be an emotion-charged Senior Day for Penn State against Wisconsin, but it would have been so much better with Mauti on the field. The senior already has suffered two ACL tears in his career and has been so good when healthy. Sophomore Mike Hull is expected to start in Mauti's place against the Badgers.

Best of luck to Mauti in his recovery.
