Big East injury notes

A couple of late-week injury notes:

  • Syracuse freshman defensive end Brandon Sharpe won't play Saturday against Maine. He had to be helped off the field in the Northwestern game after suffering an injury on the wedge-busting unit on kickoff coverage. Syracuse hasn't given specifics on the injury. Sharpe has two sacks and a forced fumble this year.

  • UConn linebacker Scott Lutrus will miss his third straight game since suffering a stinger in the Ohio game, Randy Edsall announced today. Edsall also said that defensive end Lindsey Witten, who tops the nation in sacks, is still being slowed by a stomach virus but should play Saturday against Rhode Island.

  • Still no final word on Tom Savage, but Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said Wednesday night that his freshman quarterback looked OK in practice and should play at Maryland.
