UNC DE Linwan Euwell eligible to play

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- UNC defensive end Linwan Euwell has been cleared to play in today's game against Virginia, the school announced about two hours prior to kickoff. Euwell was held out of the first five games while the university worked with the NCAA to determine his eligibility status.

The school also announced that Brian Gupton, a junior safety, will miss the rest of the season and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Also, this was supposed to be the final game of a six-game suspension for senior cornerback Kendric Burney, but Burney still has "an unresolved issue relating to the ongoing review" and his status for the Miami game remains uncertain.

"We were expecting Kendric's issue to be resolved prior to the completion of his six-game suspension," UNC AD Dick Baddour said in a prepared statement. "This week we learned that would not be the case."
