Pick o' the Irish: Week 11 at Pittsburgh

Posted by ESPN.com's Brian Bennett

Like Notre Dame, I suffered a loss last week. Unlike the Irish, I can still go 10-2. But we both need to win out, starting this week at Pittsburgh. Here comes a perfect Pitt Panthers prognostication.

Pittsburgh 35, Notre Dame 33: The Irish need this game. More specifically, Charlie Weis needs this game. It won't be easy against the No. 12 team in the BCS standings, on the road. Notre Dame should be able to score some points against a Pitt defense that was shaky against the better passing teams on its schedule earlier in the year. But the Panthers have just as good, if not a better, offensive attack because they have a 1,000-yard tailback in Dion Lewis and lots of weapons at receiver for vastly improved quarterback Bill Stull.

This one will be a shootout, and it will be -- what else -- close until the end. But all the mojo is on Pitt's side, and much like last year in South Bend, the Irish will come up just short.

Last week's pick: Notre Dame 31, Navy 19

Actual score: Navy 23, Notre Dame 21

Season record: 7-2
