DALLAS -- If it’s the State Fair of Texas, you can always count on something new and different each visit.
By my count this is my 11th trip to this game. I left my hotel long before daybreak, hoping to beat the traffic -- just like every year.
Again, my quest failed. Oklahoma and Texas fans had already piled the highways that early.
Traffic was stacked up on Interstate 30 about five miles out.
This place has always been the culinary mecca of the Southwest with the State Fair of Texas going on around it. If you don’t believe it, you should have seen the sign that welcomed fair patrons to “The fried food capital of Texas.”
There’s fried butter and fried peaches and cream new to the menu this year. The old staples like fried Snickers bars and fried Twinkies. Maybe when you add the fried mushrooms, fried zucchini and fried corn, you've got all of the basic food groups covered.
As delicious as they sound, I think I’ll pass.
