Matt Mitrione knocks out Fedor Emelianenko in first round

Matt Mitrione knocked out Fedor Emelianenko in the first round Saturday night in the co-main event of Bellator NYC at Madison Square Garden in New York.

In a strange sequence, Mitrione and Emelianenko both hit the canvas after appearing to land punches simultaneously, but Mitrione (12-5) was able to recover first and quickly pounced on Emelianenko (36-5), finishing him with punches on the ground at 1:14 of Round 1.

Mitrione, a former UFC heavyweight, has won all three of his fights since making the move to Bellator last year.

The fight was originally scheduled for February but was canceled just hours before the event when Mitrione pulled out because he was suffering from kidney stones.
