Senior defensive tackle Braxton Hoyett (Pelham, Ala./Pelham) committed Friday to sign with Mississippi State. He posted the decision, which has been confirmed by multiple reports, on Twitter:
Officially a Mississippi State Bulldog!!!!!!
— Braxton Hoyett (@Braxton_Hoyett) August 31, 2013
According to AL.com, Hoyett selected the Bulldogs over Miami (Fla.). In April, he said, "I really like the chance at Mississippi State. Miami was the first school that offered me, too. I have a really good relationship with those coaches as well. I can't think of anything that I wouldn't like about Miami, but I really do like Mississippi State, though."
Since that statement, the Hurricanes picked up commitments from five high school defensive linemen and now have 26 total commitments.
Samford, South Alabama and UAB also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-3, 274-pound prospect. Auburn, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Missouri, Ole Miss and Tennessee showed interest.
The Bulldogs have 16 pledges. Their class is currently ranked 33rd by Recruiting Nation.
