Pitt grabs first DB for 2013

Safety Tony Harper (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's) became the first defensive back to select the Pittsburgh Panthers during this recruiting cycle, multiple sources report.

Ohio, Akron and Toledo also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-4, 195-pound prospect. Illinois, Iowa and West Virginia expressed interest.

Harper performed well on the Nike Combine circuit this spring, posting an electronically-timed 4.98 40-yard dash, 4.29 20-yard shuttle, 28.2-inch vertical and 82.02 SPARQ.

Pittsburgh has five commitments.
