Vanderbilt, which currently sits in the top 25, continues to recruit well and just landed a defender with good upside. I really like the pick-up of Landon Stokes for the Commodores as I felt he was a player who was a bit underrated in the talented state of Florida. The defensive end prospect lacks ideal bulk and Vandy will need to get him in the weight room and work to better fill out his long and lean frame. But the kid is a good football player with the tools to have a bright future.
Stokes might be lean, but displays good playing strength and a nice motor and can be a disruptive presence with good quickness off the ball. He can be a tough run defender as he demonstrates the ability to play with good pad level and use his hands and reach well. He needs further polish and to better use his weapons, but has the ability to create pressure coming off the edge and be a good pass rusher. This may not be a pick-up that creates a lot of buzz, but I feel Vandy fans should be excited about their newest verbal, as Stokes has the tools to develop into a very good defender for the Commodores.
