Kemoko Turay (Newark, N.J./Barringer) has not played football since his freshman year but after impressing Rutgers' coaching staff during last week's camp, the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder committed to the Scarlet Knights, according to the Star-Ledger.
Turay, who attends Newark (N.J.) Tech but plays for Barringer because Tech does not have a football program, also received scholarship offers from Temple and James Madison.
While not competing on the gridiron during the last two years, Turay is the area triple and long jump champion and plays basketball.
“It was a dream come true (for Kemoko),” Barringer coach Darnell Magnan told MyCentralJersey.com. “He always thought he was going to get a scholarship offer playing basketball but now he is looking to contribute to Rutgers’ vision and goals. They talk about family at Rutgers, and we talk about family at Barringer. He is excited about that and about what Rutgers has to offer academically.”
The Scarlet Knights now have 14 commitments for 2013 including eight from their home state.
