RB Wendall Smallwood chooses WVU

Top 50 running back prospect Wendall Smallwood (Elkton, Md./Eastern Christian) committed Wednesday to play for West Virginia, multiple sources report.

Auburn, Boston College, Connecticut, Hawaii, Rutgers and Temple also extended scholarship offers to the 5-foot-10, 195-pound three-star. Maryland and North Carolina State were among the other schools expressing interest.

Smallwood is the seventh class of 2013 recruit from Eastern Christian Academy to make a verbal commitment. His teammate, three-star wide receiver Daikiel Shorts Jr., also picked WVU.

The Mountaineers now have 13 pledges for this recruiting cycle.
