Three-star athlete Jalen Reeves-Maybin (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) made his public commitment Friday to play in-state for the Volunteers.
“I’ve been wanting to commit since January,” Reeves-Maybin told The Tennessean. “Ever since my first visit to Knoxville I was just feeling (Tennessee) and it just felt like home. The coaches at UT were real genuine. They stay on you pretty hard, which shows they love you.”
The Tennessean adds that he selected the Vols over Vanderbilt and Ole Miss while Louisville and Georgia Tech rounded out his top five. Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Duke, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Purdue also offered.
Reeves-Maybin, 6-foot-1, 198-pounds, passed for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushed for 1,468 yards and 31 more scores during his junior season.
Additionally, he posted impressive combine figures this spring including a 4.82 40-yard dash, 4.2 20-yard shuttle, 29.1-inch vertical and 91.74 SPARQ.
Jalen's father, Marques Maybin, played basketball at Louisville in the mid 1990's.
Tennessee now has 17 commitments for 2013 and is approaching ESPN's top 25 class rankings list.
