Two-way lineman James Looney (Lake Worth, Fla.) committed Wednesday to sign with Wake Forest, according to multiple sources. He is the younger brother of former Demon Deacons offensive lineman Joe Looney, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
“He was comfortable there,” Lake Worth coach Errick Lowe told the Palm Beach Post. “It’s like his home away from home.”
James selected the ACC program over scholarship offers from Bowling Green, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, South Florida, Tulane and Western Kentucky. Other schools including Miami-FL and Stanford recruited the 6-foot-3, 260-pound prospect who is expected to graduate early from high school and enroll at Wake Forest in January.
Looney, who will be evaluated and graded soon by ESPN, has battled injuries recently, according to the Post. He missed spring ball due to a broken ankle and sat out three games this season because of a pulled hip muscle.
Wake Forest has 13 verbals for 2013.
