Iowa State landed four-star offensive tackle Shawn Curtis (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) on Tuesday, multiple sources report. Curtis, the nation's No. 29 OT, is now the highest-rated verbal for the Cyclones. He made an official visit to Ames, Iowa, during the weekend of Oct. 26 for Iowa State's 35-21 victory over Baylor.
The 6-foot-6, 269-pound senior also made official visits to Mississippi State (Oct. 12), Syracuse (Oct. 19) and Wake Forest (Nov. 2).
His other offers include Cincinnati, Connecticut, East Carolina, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Alabama and South Florida.
ESPN calls Curtis "a very efficient run-blocker and uses his size and quickness to gain and sustain an advantage. He has the frame and athleticism for the offensive tackle position at the major level of competition, although he will need to add solid bulk to his frame. ... His nasty finishing effort is what we look for when evaluating offensive linemen."
Curtis posted an electronically-timed5.45 40-yard dash, 4.61 20-yard shuttle, 23.5-inch vertical and 65.25 SPARQ at a Nike Combine this spring.
The Cyclones have 22 pledges for 2013. Curtis is the fourth offensive lineman to jump on board during this recruiting cycle.
