Alex Figueroa set for Miami-FL

Outside linebacker / defensive end Alex Figueroa (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) has committed to sign with the Hurricanes, multiple sources report. He made an official visit over the weekend.

Figueroa was originally a 2012 prospect who has seen his recruitment take many twists and turns over the last year. Fredericksburg.com chronicled his journey, stating that Figueroa intended to sign with Division II Shepherd (W.V.) University but later decided to attempt to quality for Division I and planned to attend Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy.

In July, Figueroa sustained a shoulder injury while playing in an all-star game. At that time, he choose not to enroll at Fork Union, instead opting to take SAT classes and qualify on his own.

“It’s definitely been stressful, but I’ve learned a lot of lessons,” Figueroa said. “This is a positive opportunity for me and I don’t want to take it for granted. I want to make the most of it.”

Miami-FL has 11 players on board for 2013.
