Johnny Ragin III navigates busy schedule

With the days dwindling before signing day, Johnny Ragin III (Wilsonville, Ore./Wilsonville) admitted he was a bit surprised at the increased attention he has been receiving from college coaches.

He won’t complain.

“People are liking the film and things are happening,” the 6-foot-2, 208-pound linebacker said.

The four-star recruit has been busy recently. He spent last weekend on an official visit to Nevada.

“It went really well,” Ragin said. “They played Boise State. They didn’t end up pulling out the win, but the coaches got them prepared very well. They have nice facilities and they have really quality academics out there and I had an overall great trip.”

In addition to his visit, he has entertained coaches from BYU, California, Oregon State, Colorado and Nevada during in-home visits.

“My mom and I had a good time talking to all of the coaches, getting some more questions answered that we had about each of their programs,” he said. “We enjoyed the visits.”

Cal delivered a scholarship offer Tuesday and he had an official visit to Berkeley, Calif. scheduled for this weekend. However, with the Golden Bears working on their coaching situation, Ragin’s visit date was pushed back.

He was hoping to make his decision after returning from the trip.

“I was hoping to make my decision when I got back from Cal, but now that the visit’s pushed back, I will have to wait a little bit longer,” he said. “I’m looking to make it pretty soon.”

With so much recent attention, Ragin said he doesn’t have a favorite yet as he tries to find his new “home away from home.”

“The most important thing to me is the quality of the education first and then the quality of the program and the relationship I have with the coaches,” he said.
