J.D. Hinnant makes the call

Cal has received a commitment from three-star offensive guard J.D. Hinnant (Fountain Valley, Calif./Fountain Valley), according to multiple reports.

Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Duke, Harvard, Nebraska (Sept. 28th official visit), Nevada, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, Washington and Washington State also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-3, 257-pound senior.

ESPN writes in his evaluation: "Although Hinnant plays the tackle position effectively, his height and athleticism appear better suited for the offensive guard position at the major level of competition."

"Plays with the nasty finishing attitude we like to see when evaluating offensive linemen. Hinnant may need some time and perhaps a redshirt year to grow physically while polishing his technical skills."

This spring, Hinnant posted an electronically timed 5.46 40-yard dash, 4.15 20-yard shuttle, 23.4-inch vertical and 77.52 SPARQ at a Nike combine.

Cal's class, currently ranked No. 26 in the nation by ESPN, has 21 players committed or already signed.
