#AskLoogs: Badgers courting speed

Well, I visited with Gary Andersen earlier this fall and I know for a fact he wants to improve team speed and skill across the board, most notably at wide receiver, defensive back and linebacker. Andersen and his staff they are still getting a feel for their current roster, the recruiting pool of the Midwest, how the program is viewed outside of the Midwest by prospects and what their capabilities are. Wisconsin certainly doesn’t want to abandon what has made them special, but rather add to it with some more explosiveness and likely more athleticism under center, too.

One of the unknown variables is how they will perform in recruiting outside of their base. Don’t get too caught up in stars and how highly ranked the players are. As you know as a Wisconsin fan, this hasn’t been a problem before. Expect Texas, New Jersey, Georgia and Florida to be mined as a supplement to the Midwest. Don’t be surprised if Wisconsin is willing to give up an inch or two for a prospect here and there if he adds speed. This is the case with current freshman starting cornerback Sojourn Shelton.
