OL Ira Denson turning focus to college

ORLANDO, Fla. -- It wasn't how ESPN 150 offensive guard Ira Denson (Madison, Fla./Madison County) wanted his senior season to end.

On Saturday afternoon, University School upended the Cowboys 24-17 in the state championship game. But the 6-foot-4, 317-pound Denson chose not to dwell in the immediate, citing a great team effort this season to get them at least this far.

"We had a great season," he said. "We had a great year this year. It was frustrating at the end because that isn't how we wanted it to end, but I am proud of all my teammates. We played hard and I love them to death. I will be cheering for them and hope they get back here next year."

Denson, a Florida State commitment, talked to Seminoles offensive line coach Rick Trickett leading up to the season finale. His future position coach gave him a few words of encouragement and motivation.

"I talked to him leading up," Denson said. "He told me to play hard, keep your boys' head up and get after it up front."

Next weekend, the final weekend available to the early enrollee to take an official visit, Denson will head to Columbia, S.C.

"Probably," he said. "I am going to bring my mom and my brother."

Denson is an Under Armour All-American and will play in the all-star game in St. Petersburg, Fla., in January. He is the No. 103 player in the ESPN 150.
