After setting a franchise record with 334 all-purpose yards from scrimmage in the team's regular-season finale, Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount has been named the AFC offensive player of the week, it was announced on Tuesday morning.
Blount led the team with 189 yards rushing to go along with two rushing scores, while also returning two kickoffs for 83 and 62 yards, respectively, the longest kickoff returns for the Patriots this season.
Following the game, Blount earned heavy praise from his head coach, Bill Belichick.
“Clearly [he was] the best player on the field,” Belichick said. “He had a tremendous day.”
“He carried the team on his back most of the day,” Belichick added. “He had 330-something yards, I don’t know how much more we had besides that.”
Blount becomes the second Patriot to win the weekly award this season, as quarterback Tom Brady also took home the honor following his Week 12 effort against the Broncos.
